The role is a leadership position that is responsible for applying principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports including technical accounting matters, month-end closings, balance sheet review / reconciliation, financial controls, process design /improvement, and liaison with internal and external auditors.

Main Accountabilities:

Operational oversight of FRA operations for assigned company code(s) and responsible for providing services at expected levels with a clear customer focus.

Provides functional guidance to team members and finance / business partners

Interact proactively with functional areas to ensure accurate accounting and financial reporting is accomplished within prescribed deadlines and in accordance with IFRS / Alcon Accounting Manual. Proactively communicate variances to Senior Management/ business by detailing key drivers leading to deviations

Manage the completion and review monthly balance sheet account analyses and reconciliations ensuring they are robust and balances are accurately stated

Responsible for the monthly closing process for company code(s)

Ongoing process improvements made through the month to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and address business / operational changes.

Responsible for the delivery of service levels and SLA/KPI targets

Collaborate proactively with key stakeholders, including Finance colleagues, internal and external accounting authorities/auditors, and Regional/Global Financial Reporting and Accounting, Global Treasury and Global tax. Communication with these stakeholders is appropriate and timely when questions regarding accounting/reporting matters arise.

Ensure all processes comply with Alcon standards and policies (i.e. global processes, Alcon Accounting Manual, Alcon Financial Controls Manual, Management Authorization Levels, etc.).

Understand all impacts to the general ledger for assigned area(s) due to other intra- and inter-departmental transactions including manufacturing, inventory and cost accounting, inter-company receivables and payables, cash activity and activity from other functional departments.

Supervise and coach direct reports (10 or less) and create positive working environment, enhancing cross-training and employee development.
Requirements:

Undergraduate degree in Accounting and/or Finance required. Masters or Advanced degree in Accounting and/or Finance preferred

CPA/Chartered Accountant strongly preferred

8+ years of accounting experience – public and industry preferred

Comprehensive knowledge of IFRS (GAAP), accounting and financial reporting requirements. Strong analytical skills

Comprehensive knowledge of Swiss Law and related accounting requirements to establish statutory financial statements

Significant experience in financial accounting and reporting, auditing and financial process engineering, with record of strong control focus.

Strong leadership, interpersonal, influencing and management skills

Strong organizational skillset and detail oriented

Proficient ERP knowledge (SAP)

Solid Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)

1-3 years’ experience working with shared services teams
